PLDT Home Ultera coach Roger Gorayeb described the team’s stunning loss to defending champion Philippine Army in the opener of the Shakey’s V-League Season 12 Open Conference Finals in two words.

    “Parang namatanda,” he said.

The national coach of the women’s team bound for the Southeast Asian Games couldn’t think of any reason why all of a sudden, the once indomitable team suddenly looked shaky in a 25-13, 23-25, 25-27, 22-25, loss to the Lady Troopers on Thursday night at The Arena in San Juan.

The loss was the first for PLDT this conference, putting a stop to its 10-game winning streak.

“Bakit hindi na lang nakakilos? Parang di na lang maintindihan,” pointed out the veteran mentor, who was the last to leave the team dugout.

“Yung second set tumaas yung bola ‘di ba walang dumampot? ‘Di ba ilang beses ‘yung ganon?” he asked to those who cared to listen. “Hindi ko alam bakit ngayon pa kami nagkaganito, ngayong araw pang ito.”

The multi-titled coach admitted the Ultera Fast Hitters became complacent the entire game.

“Nagkulang kami. Kung saan man siguro, complacent siguro ng kaunti masyado nang mahaba ang winning streak namin,” he said.

Gorayeb, however, is looking to put the loss behind them as he looks forward to Game Two instead on Sunday.

“Pero mabuti na rin ‘yung dito kami natalo kesa naman sa Sunday kami bawian. Okay lang ‘yan,” he said.
