ROGER Gorayeb is pleased to get another shot at the V-League title even though standing between him and the trophy is his former team.
His National University Lady Bulldogs are one win away from the crown, level at one match in the best-of-three series against his former squad Ateneo Lady Eagles.
He describes it as a “no lose situation.” Two years ago, NU prevailed over then Gorayeb-mentored Ateneo led by Alyssa Valdez.
“Noon andoon ako sa Ateneo, ngayon andito na ako sa NU so nabitbit ko sila pareho sa championship na ganito sabi ko ako no lose situation ako kasi ‘yung Ateneo nandyan pa rin, nandyan pa rin ‘yung mga player ko,” said Gorayeb.
Earlier this year NU and Ateneo faced off in the UAAP semifinals, and the latter went on to claim the title.
It’s a different league this time but the title is on the line and the finale on Sunday gives Gorayeb a chance to sort of even things.
He stresses it’s all healthy competition.
“Though naglalaban kami natutuwa ako na deep inside sila ang nakakalaban ko kasi proud ako as a coach ’yung dati kong team tapos itong bago kong team kaya proud ako as a coach, as a tatay,” he said.
“Wala naman, nakikita niyo ba may kantyawan? Wala, laro-laro lang kasi magkakaibigan ‘yan eh,” he said.
“Masaya rin ako kasi Ateneo team ko pa rin naman ‘yan, mga anak ko rin naman ‘yan. Natutuwa ako na mga player ko ang makakalaban ko,” he added.
