PREMIER Volleyball League (PVL) president Ricky Palou said things are 'getting out of hand' when it comes to the salaries and bonuses of the league's players.

Palou, however, remained steadfast in lobbying for a 'reasonable' salary cap for the pro league sooner or later.

"We'd really like to install a salary cap on the salaries and bonuses of the players. The way things are going now is ang feeling namin is everything is getting out of hand," said Palou.

"At the end of the day, it would be the teams that will be having difficulties in maintaining their team so we'd really like to put every team on a reasonable level," he added.

According to SPIN.ph sources, salaries of PVL players that started in the P30,000 to P60,000 range during its early years as a commercial league have escalated to the point that six-figure salaries are no longer surprising.

Research done for a previous story showed that even players from middle-tier clubs are well compensated, and deals struck by a couple of stars have approached the PBA maximum of P450,000 a month.

PVL seeks feedback

Without delving into specifics, Palou gave a firm guarantee that feedback from all 12 teams will be taken into account in drafting the final guidelines for a soon-to-be imposed financial ceiling.

"We are preparing some guidelines on what will go in the salary cap and we will present those to teams since we want to get their inputs also," said Palou.
