ALYSSA Valdez played like an import as Bureau of Customs turned back Laoag, 18-25, 27-25, 21-25, 25-21, 15-9, for a share of lead with University of Santo Tomas in the Shakey's V-League Reinforced Conference at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City on Wednesday.

Valdez took over for BoC, which missed Thai imports Kanjana Kuthaisong and Natthanicha Jaisaen, with a career-high and V-League record of 39 points as the Transformers improved to 2-0.

The former Ateneo star erased Thai import Sontaya Keawbundit’s 38 points for the Lady Eagles against Lyceum in the battle for third in the SVL Season 7 First Conference in 2010. Valdez also eclipsed former Adamson skipper Angela Benting’s 37 points in 2009 season 6 second conference and former Ateneo import Thai Lithawat Kesinee in 2007.

“Swerte lang talaga kanina, breaks of the game,” said Valdez of her record.

The 23-year old pride of San Juan, Batangas was impressive on both ends of the floor as she scattered her points from 29 kills, two blocks and eight of the team’s 13 service aces and she also registered 17 digs.

“I think I’m really happy hindi lang sa panalo, masaya kami buong team kasi naglaro talaga kami not only for ourselves but also for the imports and for our teammates na hindi rin nakalaro today so ‘yun din ang inspiration namin for today’s game,” she added.

From a tied 6-6 contest in the deciding set, Valdez led the attack for BoC to take the lead, 13-7, before they reached match point, 14-7.

Rizza Mandapat's service error and Valdez's miscue put the match at 9-14, before Rose Marie Vargas sealed the win for BoC.

“Noong umpisa naman talaga inisip na namin kung ano ang mako-contribute namin kay Alyssa eh, hahanapan mo lang talaga ng kakampi,” said BoC coach Sherwin Meneses.

“Eh nakikita naman ng teammates niya na, kailangan natin tumulong kasi ‘yun lang naman ang magagawa natin dito eh ang tumulong pumuntos, dumepensa,” he added.

Jorelle Singh led Laoag with 28 points, from 14 spikes, three blocks and 11 of the team’s 15 service aces, while Grethcel Soltones added 15.
