EJ Laure took charge as the University of Santo Tomas bucked a slow start to eke out a 21-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-13 win over Bali Pure in the Shakey's V-League Reinforced Conference at the PhilSports Arena on Saturday.
The Golden Tigresses leaned on Laure to carve out their third straight win while foiling the Water Defenders' debut in the conference.
Laure unleashed 23 points and made her presence felt when the Golden Tigresses clawed back from a 17-13 hole in the third frame, sparking an 10-5 run to gain the 23-22 upperhand and the set in the process.
Carla Sandoval added 12 points, while Marivic Meneses had 10 points, including two of her four blocks, in the fourth set.
While he is happy with his wards' performance three games into the conference, UST coach Kung Fu Reyes rued his team's erratic service.
"Okay naman so far pinapakita. Yung problema lang namin service ramdam pa rin namin," he said.
"Alam na nila kung pano manalo, gagawin na lang is tatrabahuhin," added the veteran mentor.
Katherine Morell paced the Water Defenders with 25 points but her effort failed to will her team to victory even after an explosive start.
Kaylee Mann and Amy Ahomiro added nine apiece.
