THE PVL is taking its 10th anniversary season in a direction it has never gone before.
Instead of a traditional All-Filipino Conference format, the 2026-27 season will be broken into three separate series from October through April, creating a marathon championship race that will reward consistency while giving teams multiple opportunities to make their mark.
The revamped format begins with the 1st Series from October to December 2026, followed by the 2nd Series from January to March 2027, before everything culminates in a decisive 3rd Series from March to April 2027.
And while each series has its own structure, the first two will ultimately feed into the final championship push.
Here is how the new-look All-Filipino will work.
1ST SERIES: Everyone starts from zero
The opening series will run from October to December 2026, with all teams going through single-round-robin preliminaries.
The top four then advance to the semifinals, where the No. 1 seed faces No. 4 and No. 2 takes on No. 3.
The top two teams will carry a significant advantage into those matchups, with both receiving the twice-to-beat advantage.
The series championship will then be decided through a best-of-three finals.
But there is another wrinkle: the all-to-play rule applies throughout the entire first series.
Every team must field every player listed on its roster, meaning coaches cannot simply lean on their preferred rotation from start to finish.
That makes the opening series as much a test of depth as it is of star power.
2ND SERIES: The points start to matter
The second series, scheduled from January to March 2027, essentially keeps the same tournament format as the first.
There is one major difference: the all-to-play rule is gone.
Teams will now have full discretion over which players they want to field, allowing coaches to manage their lineups according to form, matchups and the bigger picture.
More importantly, the second series introduces the first major connection between the three-part format.
Points earned in the first two series will be combined, and the top two teams in the cumulative standings will earn direct passage to the semifinals of the third series.
The remaining seven teams will not be eliminated, however, as they will have to fight through a stepladder preliminary round for the other two semifinal berths.
3RD SERIES: Fight for the Philippine Grand Championship
The third and final series, slated for March to April 2027, is where the accumulated points finally pay off.
The bottom three teams, seeded Nos. 7 to 9, will first play a single-round-robin preliminary phase.
From there, the No. 6 team faces No. 7, while No. 5 takes on No. 8.
The winners move on to face the No. 4 and No. 3 teams, respectively, with those matchups determining the final two semifinalists.
The top two teams from the first two series, meanwhile, skip all of that and advance directly to the semifinals.
Those semifinals will be best-of-three series, with the matchups set at No. 1 vs. No. 4 and No. 2 vs. No. 3.
Then comes the final showdown in a best-of-three finals to determine the winner of the third series and, with it, the league's Philippine Grand Champion.
Three series, one bigger prize
The new format fundamentally changes how teams have to approach the All-Filipino.
A strong start matters, consistency matters even more and surviving the first two series does not necessarily mean a team is safe, because the third series introduces a stepladder gauntlet that can force teams to fight their way back into contention.
For the league's 10th anniversary season, the PVL is effectively turning its flagship conference into a seven-month championship race, with every series serving a different purpose.
The first is about establishing a foundation, the second is about building a points advantage and the third is about cashing it all in for the right to be crowned Philippine Grand Champion.
