A busy PVL offseason is poised to get even busier, and potentially messier, as uncertainty surrounds plans of Petro Gazz and Nxled to join forces ahead of the 2026 season.
Whether formally labeled a ‘merger’ or not, the proposed union has already drawn pushback from several teams across the league.
SPIN.ph has learned that certain stakeholders are prepared to block the move should it be brought to a vote among PVL teams.

From what is currently known, the combined squad will continue under the Nxled banner.
Nxled head coach Ettore Guidetti is expected to retain his post, barring late changes, effectively keeping him ahead of champion mentors Gary and Lisa Van Sickle.
However, much of the coaching and support staff is projected to come from last year’s two-time champion Petro Gazz setup.
In practice, the reconfigured Nxled side would retain a select group of its core players while absorbing those who remain from the Angels, creating a roster that blends two established programs.
Sources indicate that the move was largely prompted by financial constraints on Petro Gazz’s end, issues that reportedly persisted despite its golden double last year in the All-Filipino and Reinforced Conferences.

The Strong Group Athletics (SGA) stable, which owns Farm Fresh and ZUS Coffee, is said to be among the most vocal opponents of the plan.
Rival teams reportedly view the move as an attempt by the Akari group to gain an unfair competitive edge by effectively strengthening its ‘second team.’
As of now, the PVL has yet to formally act on the proposal, and it remains unclear whether either Petro Gazz or Nxled has officially submitted documentation for league approval.
