FOR the first time in the Premier Volleyball League's (PVL) seven-year history, a player draft will commence in June — shortly after the season-opening All-Filipino Conference.
Although the final draft guidelines are still being ironed out, league commissioner Sherwin Malonzo gave a brief glimpse on the buildup to the inaugural PVL Draft.

"For this coming conference, all the players are pwedeng direct hire until later (deadline for rosters). They will be submitting their final lineups later. We'll see kung sino yung mga direct hires," Malonzo said.
"Come June, all new players will apply for the draft. That's the transition from amateur or collegiate volleyball — they'll have to pass through the draft," he added.

Draft eligibility for local players
As it stands, there is one primary requirement for a player to be deemed eligible for the draft — be at least 21 years old on draft day.
"For the local players, kasi we haven't presented everything to the teams, but the basic eligibility rule for you to qualify for the draft, you have to be 21 years old on the day of the drafting."
Malonzo added: "Regardless kung nag-college lang kayo, high school lang kayo, or out-of-school youth basta 21 years old. Age lang ang batayan sa ngayon but we're still furnishing the details of the draft, 'yung regulations ng draft, which will be presented to the teams also."
