EVEN with its decision to turn professional, the Premier Volleyball League plans to continue its collegiate conferences by reviving the V-League.

“We will still continue with the collegiate tournament. However, since it’s an amateur tournament, we will hold it under the V-League brand,” said Ricky Palou, president of PVL organizer Sports Vision during the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) Sports Summit on Saturday.

Prior to the rebranding, the PVL was known as V-League, which was instituted in 2004 as a collegiate competition. University of Santo Tomas, La Salle, Ateneo, and San Sebastian were some of the squads that saw action.

The V-League began introducing club teams and commercial squads in 2011, but still held collegiate conferences during that period. The V-League was renamed PVL in 2017 but continued to hold all-college conference.

The PVL will operate as a professional league beginning in 2021, starting with a bubble tournament in the first quarter of the year.

“If you recall, the V-League was the brand that started this all volleyball tournaments. And then in three years ago, it evolved into Premier Volleyball League. I think what we will do now is bring back the collegiate tournament under the V-League brand,” said Palou.

The Inspire Sports Academy in Calamba and the Trace Colleges in Los Baños are two of the venues being considered by the PVL for its tournaments.
