IRIGA-Navy copped its first win in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference at the expense of listless Adamson-Akari, 25-18, 23-25, 25-21, 24-26, 15-11, on Saturday at The Arena in San Juan.
Team captain Grazielle Bombita led the way for the Lady Oragons with 21 points, while Nene Bautista added 18, Joanne Bunag chipped in 15, Divine Eguia made 12 and Hezzymie Acuna had 11.
Iriga-Navy ended the first round of elimination on a high note, 1-6, while keeping Adamson-Akari winless (0-7).
“Malaking tulong ang mga veterans namin kasi naging matibay ang pundasyon namin, ‘di kagaya noong una na parang on and off,” said Lady Oragons coach Edgardo Rusit.
“Pero ngayon kapag matibay ang kasama mo sa loob medyo makaka-sure ka na lalaban ng todo talaga,” he added.
Down by one, 8-9, in the fifth set, Bautista sparked Iriga-Navy’s a 7-2 run to finish off the match.
Chiara Permentilla finished with 21 points, built on 19 attacks, for Adamson-Akari, while Bernadette Flora had 16 markers.
