THE PVL will increase the base salary for the top four picks of this year's draft by 10 percent, the pioneering volleyball league said on Monday.
PVL commissioner Sherwin Malonzo clarified that the figures are merely base numbers and not a defining cap.

"Currently, the PVL is not yet implementing a salary cap to the players' salaries," he told reporters.
"PVL has a salary scale for rookies and there are specific amounts for each of the top four picks."
From a minimum starting rate of P150,000 in 2024, the top draft pick will now be entitled to at least P165,000. This is followed by a P150,000 base pay for the No. 2 pick, P135,000 for the third pick and P120,000 for the fourth pick.

Capital1 will have the luxury of choosing first in the draft and can offer its eventual pick — likely to be three-time UAAP MVP Bella Belen — a minimum of P165,000.
It now becomes the Solar Spikers management's discretion on whether their No. 1 pick will earn that base amount or go higher in the absence of a salary cap.
The same goes for Galeries Tower, Farm Fresh and Nxled as the succeeding trio among the first four drafting teams.
