THE PVL and the Candon City local government will give proceeds of Saturday’s second round twin bill to families affected by Typhoon Tino in Cebu last week.
League president Ricky Palou and Candon City mayor Eric Singson came to an agreement that the league's fourth visit to the Ilocos Sur city be used as a means to extend help to the victims of the typhoon's devastating onslaught over in Visayas.
“We decided, my fellow officials of the city, that the proceeds of these games in the PVL will be donated to Cebu City as our contribution sa mga naghihirap nating kababayan,” Singson said.
“Mayor Eric Singson and I talked about it. We decided to give the proceeds of this game to the victims of the super typhoon,” he said. “Si Mayor ang nag-suggest, sabi ko, ‘Yeah, that’s a good idea,’ so we will do that," Palou added.
Tickets for the double-header featuring PLDT versus Galeries Tower and ZUS Coffee versus Choco Mucho were priced from as low as P110 to as high as P2,050.
As per official league reports, 1,550 fans attended the first game. The crowd count increased to 2,561 for the second game.
Following a strong turnout amid an impending storm up north in Typhoon Uwan, Palou saw no reason to pass on an opportunity to use the league's growing platform for a a greater humanitarian cause in such dire times of need.
“Sa’min importante kasi, ‘di ba, when a typhoon hits, it’s difficult for a lot of people. They get displaced from their homes, they get put into shelters. So any help anyone can give is good for everybody,” the PVL president said.
Palou added that with another typhoon approaching, the league remains ready to mobilize support and provide aid.
