IT’S a dynasty-versus-destiny clash once more in the 2026 PVL All-Filipino Conference finals.
Cignal, on its third trip to the title series, is determined to finally break through and deny Creamline’s bid to reclaim its throne after a three-conference absence from the finals.

For the Super Spikers, the story has been one of near-misses. Their last shot came in the winner-take-all title game of the 2024 Invitational Conference, also against Creamline, where they fell short in five sets as the Cool Smashers went on to complete the sport's first Grand Slam.

Creamline, meanwhile, arrives from a very different path.

This is the first time in years that the Cool Smashers are close to full strength in a complete PVL campaign, after seasons disrupted by overseas stints, national team duties, and injuries.
Even then, the road was far from smooth as they needed to survive two do-or-die games just to get here, a stark contrast to the dominant runs that once defined their dynasty.
And yet, they are back where they are most familiar, with an 11th title within reach.
To better grasp this heavyweight showdown, SPIN.ph breaks down the trilogy between the two finalists this conference and how each team approaches its shot at gold in the best-of-three series.
Finals by the numbers
Creamline still holds the historical edge over Cignal since the latter joined the PVL’s professional era in 2021.
The tally stands at 14-6 in favor of the Cool Smashers, but that gap has started to narrow.
After years of swift wins for Creamline in this matchup, Cignal has flipped the trend, taking three of the last four meetings and four of the last seven dating back to the 2025 PVL On Tour.
And in this 2026 run, it has been all Cignal so far, with red holding sway over pink heading into the finals.
PRELIMS: Creamline completes crucial escape

Creamline secured the last qualifying round berth after outlasting Cignal in a five-set thriller, 25-19, 25-20, 15-25, 26-28, 16-14. The win snapped the Cool Smashers’ two-game slide at the time and locked them in as the No. 3 seed, while denying the Super Spikers a shot at the top spot.
It marked a poised finish for the Cool Smashers, which had struggled to close out matches earlier in the conference.
Alyssa Valdez paced Creamline with a triple-double of 23 points, 13 digs, and 13 receptions in just her second start, while Dij Rodriguez posted her first career triple-double with 19 points, 17 receptions, and 12 digs, filling in for the on-the-mend duo of Jema Galanza and Bernadeth Pons at the time.
Creamline appeared headed for a straight-sets win before Cignal mounted a second-set comeback behind Vanie Gandler and Jewel Encarnacion, ultimately forcing a decider and saving multiple match points in the fourth.
But despite Gandler’s massive 26-point, 19-dig, 15-reception triple-double, the Super Spikers fell short in the end as Creamline held firm to complete the qualifying cast and set up a rematch for a semifinals berth.
QUALIFYING: Cignal exacts timely revenge

Cignal struck back when it mattered most, outlasting Creamline in a grueling five-set duel, 25-21, 24-26, 18-25, 25-22, 17-15, to barge into the semifinals just days after a painful collapse against the same team.
This time, with far higher stakes, Cignal held its nerve in crunch time, needing multiple match points before finally closing it out on Creamline errors, including a costly mishit from Alyssa Valdez. The composure was a stark contrast to their previous defeat, as they refused to let another opportunity slip.
Erika Santos led the charge with 26 points, while Gandler added 22 points on top of heavy defensive work, behind a herculean 35 excellent-set game and 11 points from Gel Cayuna in a full-team effort that matched Creamline’s firepower.
With momentum swinging throughout, Cignal regained control late in the fifth after Creamline forced a 10-all deadlock. From there, the Super Spikers stayed composed, sealed the win and sent the Cool Smashers to the play-ins, completing a revenge arc that carried them into the semis.
SEMIS: Statement sent for Super Spikers

After earning a position where one more win was enough for a finals berth, Cignal made sure to get the job done against a familiar foe, beating Creamline in four sets, 25-13, 13-25, 25-16, 25-16.
The Super Spikers set the tone early with a dominant opening frame, steadied themselves after dropping the second and then took firm control of the match from there through Gandler's 24 points, 10 digs, and 10 receptions.
The win marked Cignal’s second straight victory over Creamline in the semifinals, and one that sent the latter to a do-or-die clash with Farm Fresh for the last finals berth which it eventually won in four sets.
With a big opportunity in the offing, there was no hesitation for the Super Spikers to pounce, having seized the moment and finished the job against a rival they had learned to overcome after years of heartbreak.
Handling the championship heat
For Cignal head coach Shaq delos Santos, cracking Creamline has long been a side mission.
Years of studying one of the league’s most established teams have gone beyond tactics, building belief that the Super Spikers can finally break through against a longtime tormentor.

“Happy ako kasi du’n sa mga players namin sa kung paano nila ma-handle ’yung sitwasyon kapag Creamline ’yung kalaban. Sa tagal na rin kasi naming inaaral din ’yung bawat teams, especially Creamline kasi alam naman natin kung gaano sila ka-beterano, gaano sila ka-mature maglaro,” he said.

“Mas nagkaroon na rin kami ng kumpiyansa sa sarili namin at ini-embrace din talaga namin ’yung every encounter namin [with Creamline].”
That confidence has translated this conference, but as Gandler emphasized, it all resets in the finals.
“It’s back to zero since the finals series is a completely new competition," she told SPIN.ph.
On the other end, Creamline enters from unfamiliar territory.

Despite owning 10 titles, the Cool Smashers are coming off a rare three-conference finals drought, with their last championship dating back to their 2024 Grand Slam run.
“Ine-embrace lang namin ’yung pressure at blessed kami na nakuha namin [’yung spot sa finals], pero ’yung goal namin is talagang mag-champion,” said head coach Sherwin Meneses.

“Tatrabahuin naming mabuti para maibigay namin ’yung 110 percent namin sa finals.”
Back in the finals after more than two years, Jia de Guzman is looking to change the narrative against a Cignal side that has had their number this conference.
“The past games we went up against Cignal, grabe rin talaga ’yung nilaro nila, ’yung preparation, ‘yung scouting. But the finals is a diffent story, at least I’d like it to be a different story,” she said.
