TWO skids will be snapped while two others will be stretched as winless St. Benilde, San Beda, San Sebastian and Perpetual Help tangle in a pair of rare Thursday matches in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Collegiate Conference at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.
The Lady Blazers and the Lady Red Spikers try to break a two-game spell in their 2 p.m. faceoff with the winner bouncing back into contention in the short single round robin phase of the mid-season conference.
Also with two setbacks, the Lady Stags try to crash into the win column in their 4 p.m. showdown with the Lady Altas, who dropped their first three matches via shutout losses.
FEU and UST show the way with 3-0 cards with Adamson and UP taking the next two spots with 2-0 and 1-0 slates, respectively. The top four teams after the eliminations advance to the crossover semifinals.
St. Benilde actually dragged pre-tournament favorite Far Eastern U to a five-setter and lost in four to another early title contender Adamson U with new coach Jerry Yu hopeful of finally getting the breaks against the Lady Red Spikers, who lost in four to FEU and bowed to UST in three.
Though Nieza Viray emerged as the second leading scorer with 34 hits in and setter Lynne Matias is tops in her department with a 5.57 norm per set, they lack bench support with twin Jiezela, Satrriani Espiritu, Grace Manzano, siblings Aurea and Daryl Racraquin still trying to find their groove.
The Lady Blazers hope to pounce on their struggle as they seek to nail the elusive win behind outside spiker Marites Pablo, Klarisa Abriam, Arianne Daguil, middle blocker Chelsea Umali, Michelle Gamit, Diane Ventura, setter Hannah Lai and libero Melanie Torres.
San Sebastian, meanwhile, pins its hopes on Joyce Sta. Rita, Shane Requierme, Jamille Carreon, Josephine Tan, Sofia Sarmiento, Mary Dapol, libero Jewelle Bermillo and setter Vea Sison as they go up against the likes of Aurora Tripoli, Shyra Mae Umandal, Cindy Imbo, Jhona Rosal, Jenny Gaviola, libero Alyssa Sangalang and playmaker Mae Gual.
Also on tap are three men’s matches with Perpetual Help trying to even its card at 2-2 against winless San Beda at 9 a.m.; National U seeking to join Adamson U and UST at 3-0 against Arellano U, winless in two starts, at 11 a.m.; and FEU clashing with La Salle in a duel of winless teams at 6 p.m.
