PETRO Gazz piled onto Akari’s woes in the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference, running away with a 28-26, 29-27, 25-18 sweep of the skidding Chargers on Thursday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Brooke Van Sickle, who had a double-double of 19 points and 13 digs, showed the way alongside a back-in-form Myla Pablo with 15 markers, her best performance this conference to date.
The Angels now hold a 3-1 card.
Just five days after losing in straight sets to erstwhile-winless Farm Fresh, Akari lost a third straight game without winning a single set.
Ivy Lacsina and Grethcel Soltones’ 21 and 11 attacks, respectively, would go for naught yet again for Akari.
Good vibes only

As his first full year in charge of the Angels comes to a close, coach Koji Tsuzurabara’s mantra continues to push the team forward even when results don’t go their way.

“Sabi lang sa’min ng coach namin na ‘smile lang’ kahit na matambakan kami kasi iba din pag naka-smile sa loob ng court. Kumbaga. halos lahat nadadala ‘yung energy ng bawat kasama,” said Pablo.
“I think nagtulong-tulong kami as a team. We know naman Brooke, how she plays, pero she needs help din.”
Van Sickle added: “I thought everyone came out with really good energy. Everyone’s smiling, it was good vibes. Akari came out with fire and grit as always and they did a great job. It was a fantastic battle, it was good volleyball.”
