CAGAYAN Valley recovered from a slow start to rise over the Air Force in four sets and book its ticket to the semifinals of the Shakey's V-League Season 10 Open Conference on Tuesday at The Arena in San Juan.
National players Aiza Maizo and Angge Tabaquero dished out fine performances in their return from the Asian Women’s Volleyball Championship, leading the Rising Suns to a 22-25, 25-20, 25-20, 25-22 victory.
However, national coach and Rising Suns mentor Nes Pamilar was unhappy after needing to fight back from a first-set loss.
"First set medyo nag-aadjust pa, sabi ko nga sa kanila, ano ba hinahanap niyong kalaban malalaki pa rin?" said Pamilar, who together with the national team arrived Sunday night from Thailand.
Former University of Santo Tomas Tigresses Maizo and Tabaquero had 18 and 13 points, respectively, as the Lady Rising Suns beat Philippine Air Force for their eighth win.
The nationals’ return was also a timely boost as Cagayan Valley missed the services of Thei reinforcement Kannika Thipachot, who suffered food poisoning the previous night.
Cagayan outscored the Air Women in service aces (6-4) and registered more blocks (11-10).
Joy Cases came away with 16 points for Air Force, while Maika Ortiz andJudy Ann Caballejo chipped in 13 and 11.
The Air Women, who are now 5-4, absorbed their second straight loss in the quarterfinals after winning five consecutive games in their seven eliminations matches.
