THE Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) asserted it will be in full control of the country’s hosting of the 2026 AVC Women’s Cup set from June 6 to 14 in Candon City, Ilocos Sur.
PNVF president Tony Boy Liao stood firm on the federation’s leading role in organizing the tournament amid reports that an external party could run the tournament, with backing from the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).
“Definitely, the PNVF will be on top of things,” said Liao.

“We just went to Candon last week and we had discussions with Mayor Eric [Singson]. Sabi nga niya, Candon will host, PNVF will organize. ‘Yun ang sabi sa amin. I think tomorrow or the day after tomorrow, there will be an inspection supported by AVC and Volleyball World.
“‘Yun din ang sasabihin niya du’n na they will host, then they will connect.”
Liao also dismissed speculation that Alas Pilipinas Women might not compete in the home tournament, assuring that the national team will represent the country in the Ilocos Sur-hosted event.
“The national team will definitely play kasi nagulat ako last week, may nagtatanong sa ’kin kung totoo raw na walang women's team,” he said. “Sabi ko, we are hosting so imposible naman na walang women's team. I don't know where that came from pero definitely, ‘yung Alas women's team will be playing there.”
PNVF alone?
Liao addressed reports that the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC), led by former PNVF head Ramon 'Tats' Suzara, could take over the hosting beginning with the formation of the Local Organizing Committee.
He clarified the roles of the different stakeholders, noting that Volleyball World, the commercial arm of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB), continues to oversee coordination among the stakeholders.
“Volleyball World is always on top of things because they’re the arm of the FIVB. Gusto ng Volleyball World is cooperation among everybody,” Liao explained. “Walang bida. Sama-sama tayo for the success of the event kaya lahat ‘yan, sama-sama.
“According to Mayor Eric, he was able to talk with Chairman Pato [Gregorio]. PSC is willing to support financially, so du’n papasok ‘yung PSC.”
