PHILIPPINE National Police completed the quarterfinal cast of the Shakey's V-League Season 10 Open Conference as it survived Philippine Navy in their do-or-die encounter, 25-16, 25-14, 17-25, 25-21, on Friday at The Arena in San Juan.
Frances Molina, Patcharee Sangmuang, and Janine Marciano starred in the win, only the second in seven games for the Lady Patrollers, who carry their record to the next round.
Molina came through with 23 points, Sangmuang – the Thai reinforcement – added 20, while Marciano had 17 for PNP.
“Dapat straight sets lang 'yun, pinahaba lang, pinasarap lang,” said winning coach Bob Malenab.
The Lady Sailors rallied from an 8-9 deficit in the third set behind an 8-1 run to grab the uuperhand, 15-10, before winning the set by scoring the last four points and extend the match.
But the Lady Patrollers won’t be denied of the win as they poured four straight points to break free from a tight 21-all contest and seal the outcome of the game.
“Focus and dedication para pumasok sa quarterfinals ang nagdala sa amin ngayon,” added Malenab.
PNP now joins top-seeded Cagayan Valley (7-0), Philippine Army (6-1), Philippine Air Force (5-2), Smart (4-3) and Meralco (3-4) in the next round.
But the Lady Patrollers begin their quarterfinal campaign by taking on second seed Lady Troopers on Sunday.
Micmic Laborte finished with 19 points, while Chris Rosale had 10 for Philippine Navy, which bowed out of contention with a 1-6 (win-loss) slate.
