PLDT booted out newcomer Akari from playoff contention with a 25-11, 25-21, 25-19 sweep in the 2022 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference on Thursday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The High Speed Hitters narrowly avoided elimination as they moved up to seventh place with a 2-4 (win-loss) record while sending the Power Chargers reeling to 2-5.
Mika Reyes towed PLDT to a bounce back victory with 15 points on 10 attacks, two blocks and three aces, while Dell Palomata added 11 markers.
Ace import Elena Samoilenko shone of both offense and defense for the High Speed Hitters as she scored 20 points on 16 attacks and had three of PLDT's 10 blocks.
The Power Chargers struggled to keep up with the High Speed Hitters who came off a controversial four-set loss to Petro Gazz on Saturday, as PLDT edged Akari 44-35 in attacks, 10-2 in blocks and 5-1 in aces.
"Kailangan ma-redeem namin ulit yung panalo kahit papaano tumaas yung morale ng players namin," PLDT head coach George Pascua said.
Coming off a historic 44-point performance, Prisilla Rivera tallied a game-high 23 points on 22 attacks and five digs.
No other Power Charger came close as the next best scorer, Lycha Ebon, only produced five points off the bench.
