PLDT bounced turned back National University, 25-16, 25-23, 24-26, 25-19, on Tuesday, preventing the Lady Bulldogs from claiming a spot in the quarterfinals of the Shakey's V-League Open Conference at The Arena in San Juan.
Sue Roces led the way with 17 points, while Gretchel Soltones and Lou Ann Latigay added 14 and 11, respectively, as the Power Attackers bounced back from last week’s loss to league-leading Army.
The Lady Bulldogs suffered their third loss in five matches, but could still make it to the quarterfinals with two matches left in their elimination-round schedule.
PLDT, which had earlier clinched a spot in the quarterfinals, improved to 5-1 behind Army (4-0).
However, PLDT skipper Roces wasn’t very pleased with the way the Power Attackers handled the match against the much younger Lady Bulldogs.
“Masaya kami kasi nanalo kami, pero hindi kami masaya sa nilaro namin,” Roces told Spin.ph.
“Sobrang naging over confident kaming lahat, alam namin bata ’yung kalaban namin. Dahil sa alam namin na kaya namin dapat ’yung laro namin mas umangat pa. Natalo pa tuloy kami ng isang set," she added.
“Hindi pa rin ako satisfied, hindi ito ’yung laro namin. Hindi kami matured maglaro kanina, parang kami 'yung mga bata eh,” she continued.
Jaja Santiago made 16 points, while Myla Pablo and Jorelle Singh chipped in 14 and 11, respectively, for NU.
