WHAT was expected to be a tight showdown turned out to be a rout as PLDT Home Ultera downed Philippine Army, 25-16, 25-23, 28-26, on Sunday in the Shakey's V-League Season 12 Open Conference.
The UAAP’s back-to-back MVP Alyssa Valdez of Ateneo led the Ultra Fast Hitters with 19 points, while Sue Roces and Jaja Santiago chipped in 10 apiece.
A crowd of 2,734 went to see the match at The Arena in San Juan, with quite a number of them leaving disappointed after a match that lasted just an hour and 28 minutes.
“’Yung ganoong pagkakapanalo ng straight sets, hindi ko ine-expect yun. Ang ine-expect ko ay yung katulad ng nangyari sa third set na dikit ang laban.
Nagpukpukan, lamang kami hinabol kami, the usual close fight,” said PLDT coach Roger Gorayeb, who missed the opening match against Baguio because he was at the AVC Beach Volleyball in Thailand with Gretcel Soltones and Amanda Villanueva.
PLDT Home Ultera joined Cagayan Valley in the early lead with 2-0 win-loss records, while Army now holds an even 1-1 card.
None from the Lady Troopers reached double figures as Rachel Anne Daquis scored only nine points, while Dindin Santiago-Manabat, Mary Jean Balse, Tina Salak and Nene Bautista each had seven markers.
