But for the EST Cola star, her MVP and Best Opposite Hitter awards mattered as much for what they could represent beyond the individual recognition, another winning experience for a Thai volleyball program already building into one of Asia’s most formidable forces and with its sights set on the Olympic stage.
Phontham, who has had her own share of experience with the Thai national team, starred in EST Cola’s title-winning run and capped it by leading the Thai club to the 2026 PVL Invitational crown.
“I feel really happy that we were able to perform well and win the championship for Thailand. I think it helps Thailand keep developing little by little, both the players and the country," Phontham said in Thai.
The Philippines, she added, also gave the Thais another look at what volleyball could become with a passionate fan base filling arenas and turning matches into events.
“For example, here in the Philippines, the atmosphere is so amazing and impressive. There are so many fans, so I feel like I want to be a supporter of Philippine volleyball too," she added.
And EST Cola felt that support firsthand.
Despite arriving as a foreign guest team, the Thais found a home away from home in the Philippines, with local fans embracing them throughout a campaign that did not always come easy.
EST Cola had to overcome early struggles in the tournament before finding its rhythm and eventually sweeping Nxled in the finals.
Phontham said communication within the team became crucial, especially with the noise and pressure surrounding them.
“We try our best to talk more with each other inside the team, try not to get distracted or panic because of the noise from outside. We just focus on communicating with one another and don’t let our concentration go outside," Phontham said.
By the end of the tournament, the Thais had built their own following.
“I feel that the Philippine fans really love Thailand a lot. There are so many Philippine fans supporting us," she said.
Even after winning the championship, the EST Cola players continued to show their appreciation to nearly everyone they crossed paths with, from members of the media and tournament staff to their opposing rivals.
“Sawasdee ka” and “Khop khun ka” became familiar greetings and expressions of gratitude from the Thai contingent as they made their way through their championship celebration.
For Phontham and EST Cola, they leave the Philippines with a title, individual honors, and a grateful heart.
“Thank you so much to all the Philippine fans, and thank you to all the Thai fans watching from home. Thank you for cheering for us."
