PETRO Gazz completed a sweep of BanKo with 28-26, 25-17, 25-17 victory, earning a spot in the PVL Open title series at the Arena in San Juan.
The Angels earned their second straight trip to the PVL finals after getting a big lift from imports Wilma Salas and Janisa Johnson in the Reinforced Conference.
The Angels take on the winner of the Creamline-Motolite semis series.
The best-of-three finals begin on Nov. 6.
Jovielyn Prado led the Angels with 13 points, 14 excellent receptions and 11 digs. Paneng Mercado also shone with 11 points, while Jonah Sabete added 10 markers and 14 receptions.
Cherry Nunag scored nine and Jeanette Panaga added seven points. The two combined for seven kill blocks of the team’s 11 total rejections.
“Once na na-build talaga namin yung relationship namin, talagang nasubmit namin yung sarili namin to each other, commit namin yung bawat isa sa goal namin kaya mas naging madali yung trabaho,” said Petro Gazz coach Arnold Laniog.
“Na-overcome namin yung challenge. Hindi naman namin ineentertain yung bashers but yung most of the people na nakasubaybay sa liga natin,” he added. “Kumbaga ngayon at least kahit papaano yung challenge na binigay nila sa amin naovercome nila.”
Nicole Tiamzon led the Perlas Spikers with 15 points and 10 excellent receptions, while Dzi Gervacio had 14 markers, 12 receives and 11 digs.
BanKo has lost at the semifinal stage for the fourth straight tournament.
