PETROGAZZ swept BaliPure-National University, 25-23, 25-18, 25-14, to boost its chances of advancing to the semifinals of the 2018 Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference Women’s Division Saturday at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Angels stared at a 7-4 deficit in the third set and blanked the Purest Water Defenders from that point on, zooming to a 22-11 lead thanks to the leadership of Anastasia Trach.
“Inaral natin yung laban so nakuha natin in straight sets,” said coach Jerry Yee, elated that PetroGazz stuck with its preparations and executed its schemes to a tee.
“They stuck to the gameplan. Medyo wala silang first ball kaya medyo nadalian tayo sa kanila.”
The Ukranian Trach pumped 17 points, 15 coming from kills to steer PetroGazz to back-to-back wins and improve to 2-1.
Fellow import Olena Lymareva-Flink and Cherry Rose Nunag both had eight.
BaliPure-NU leaned on Janisa Johnson, who had 14 in the game.
However, her efforts went for naught as the Purest Water Defenders fell to 1-1 in the round-robin quarterfinals.
