JONAH Sabete and Jovie Prado sustained their fine play as Petro Gazz made short work of BanKo, 25-22, 25-15, 25-20, to move a win away from reaching the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Open Conference Finals on Saturday at the Arena in San Juan City.
Sabete continued to show her all-around play with 12 points on top of 16 excellent receptions and seven digs, while Prado nailed eight attacks and fired a pair of aces for 10 points as the Angels drew first blood in their best-of-three semifinals series.
Middle blockers Cherry Nunag and Jeanette Panaga were also instrumental with eight points apiece as well as veteran setter Chie Saet dishing out 18 excellent sets on top of three markers, while Cienne Cruz protected the floor with 20 digs and 10 receptions.
Petro Gazz head coach Arnold Laniog, who just arrived on Saturday morning from Iloilo due to UniGames, was glad that his wards sustained their momentum taking Game One for only 77 minutes.
“Naging maganda yug resulta kaya happy ako dahil nasunod lahat ng usapan noong bago ako umalis,” said Laniog. “Naunahan lang namin yung BanKo, yung momentum e. On our side maganda yung laro pero hindi naman sa mataas yung expectations ko with my players but kanina medyo nagkonting chill lang kasi nademoralize na yung kalaban.”
Petro Gazz tries to seal its second straight PVL Finals appearance on Sunday, seeking to complete the sweep on BanKo at 2 p.m.
“Hindi dito natatapos. Tomorrow, kung ano yung pinakita natin ngayon mas higitan pa natin,” Laniog added.
Dzi Gervacio and Kathy Bersola led the Perlas Spikers with 14 and 10 points, respectively. Nicole Tiamzon had nine points, nine digs and as many as receptions only for their team to fall on the brink of losing another semifinals series.
