PETRO Gazz demolished BanKo, 25-19, 25-21, 25-12, on Wednesday to take the early lead in the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference at the Arena in San Juan.
Imports Janisa Johnson and Wilma Salas combined for 34 of the Angels’ 43 total attacks with 52.31 percent efficiency to give the Angels a 2-0 win-loss record, their best start since joining the league last year.
American import Johnson nailed 19 kills out of 34 attempts for 21 points, while Cuban reinforcement Salas delivered 18 points, making 15 of 31 attack attempts and making 14 excellent receptions and eight digs.
“We have two high percentage imports. But overall 'yung game plan nasunod at nasa part ng coaching staff talaga. Second game, it's too early kaya one game at a time lang,” said Petro Gazz head coach Arnold Laniog.
Cherry Nunag had eight points, Djanel Cheng made 17 excellent sets, while libero Cienne Cruz had 13 digs and 11 excellent receptions.
Petro Gazz guns for its third straight win against Motolite on Sunday.
“The more na nananalo kami, the more na dapat nagpe-prepared kami ng double time,” Laniog said. “Hangga't kaya namin ma-sustain 'yung ganitong level of game, so ta-try namin. The more na manalo kami, the more na mag-pu-push kami.”
BanKo team captain Nicole Tiamzon had 11 points including 14 excellent receptions.
Yasemin Yildrim was limited to nine markers. Kia Bright, who led BanKo to third place last year, had only six points.
BanKo tries to bounce back against BaliPure (0-1) on Saturday before taking on defending champion Creamline (1-1) on Sunday.
