Petro Gazz's Brooke Van Sickle is PVL All-Filipino MVP

IN her very first stint in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL), Brooke Van Sickle shone the brightest, winning the 2024 All-Filipino Conference Most Valuable Player award.

The Petro Gazz superstar poured it on in every statistical category, cracking the top 10 in spiking, blocking, serving, digging, and receiving while also leading the league in total points scored with 293 points on 242 attacks, 29 rejections, and 22 aces.

Van Sickle, a Filipino-American outside spiker from Hawaii, topped the service department with 0.42 aces per set, ranking fourth in spiking (36.39 percent success rate) and fourth in blocking (0.56 average per set).

Her beach volleyball background was also evident as she was seventh in digging (3.10 average per set) and seventh in receptions (35.77 percent efficiency rate).

    Leading the PVL Premier Team are three standouts each from finalists Creamline and Choco Mucho and a veteran from Petro Gazz.

    Flying Titans ace Sisi Rondina and Cool Smashers star Jema Galanza are the league’s Best Outside Spikers with a spiking success rate of 34.20 percent and 31.13 percent, respectively.

    Rondina was also second to Van Sickle in scoring with 290 points while Galanza racked up 168 in a stacked Creamline squad for her fifth nod in the position.

    Pangs Panaga of Creamline and Maddie Madayag of Choco Mucho are this conference’s Best Middle Blockers after going 1-2 in their position in denials with a 0.69 and 0.50 average per set.

    This is Panaga’s sixth award in the position and Madayag’s second.

    Aiza Pontillas of the Angels nabbed the Best Opposite Spiker award, her first individual recognition in five years, after making 122 points, good for 13th in the league.

    Cool Smasher Kyle Negrito and Flying Titan Thang Ponce bagged the non-scoring plums, winning Best Setter and Best Libero, respectively.

    Negrito led all qualified setters with a 4.65 average per frame while Ponce was the best among semifinalists in digging with a 5.08 average per set.

    This is Negrito’s first award after being Creamline’s second setter to Jia De Guzman in the past years.

    Meanwhile, this is Ponce’s second consecutive nod after taking it in the last conference as well.

    Statistics used are up to the semifinals, and only the semifinalists are eligible for the individual awards.
