PETRO Gazz sent Pacifictown-Army crashing back to earth, 25-15, 25-15, 25-19, in the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Open Conference on Wednesday at the Arena in San Juan City.
Following a frustrating three-set loss to Creamline last Saturday, the Angels responded to their coach Arnold Laniog’s challenge that everyone should step up.
Middle blocker Jeanette Panaga, once again, fueled Petro Gazz’s offense with game-high 13 points off eight attacks, three service aces and a pair of blocks, while the wing spikers also spurred the team’s balance attack.
Jovielyn Prado delivered 12 points laced with eight excellent receptions, while Paneng Mercado and Jonah Sabete added nine markers, respectively
“Siguro nagrespond lang sila talaga sa ko sa team, especially sa hitters namin, kaya isa sa kanila ang best player,” said Laniog on best player of the game Prado and other wing spikers. “Kita naman namin ang kaya ng middle namin, kailangan magstep up this conference yung spikers namin.”

Djanel Cheng was also instrumental with 12 excellent sets as well as libero Cienne Cruz protecting the floor with 15 digs and 13 receptions as Petro Gazz improved to 2-2 win-loss record.
The Angels also took advantage of the Lady Troopers’ fatigue as the whole team was fresh from a week-long local league for the Armed Forces of the Philippines in Cagayan De Oro, while star Jovelyn Gonzaga came from Finals Game Two with Cignal in the Philippine Superliga on Tuesday night.
“Tinake advantage namin na pagod sila di ganun nakarecover katawan nila,” Laniog said.
Royse Tubino had 10 points, while Gonzaga was limited to eight markers as Pacifictown-Army absorbed its first defeat in three games.
