ILAGAN — Petro Gazz atoned for its rivalry-game loss to Creamline with a 25-15, 20-25, 25-23, 25-21 decision over Chery Tiggo EV in the 2025 PVL Reinforced Conference on Saturday at the Capital Arena in Isabela.
That’s two wins in three games for the Angels as a breakthrough victory continues to elude the preseason silver medalists in three tries.
It was a textbook start for Petro Gazz in the opening set that saw former college teammates Brooke Van Sickle and Lindsey Vander Weide go full throttle on offense.
But the Ara Galang-led Chery Tiggo EV local core was quick to fire the second-set equalizer and even turned a 6-15 third-canto deficit into a 21-all deadlock.
Blocking a nearly pivotal Crossovers comeback were back-to-back hits from Vander Weide and Myla Pablo just before BVS hammered a pair of her own to regain the lead.
A nip-and-tuck fourth frame still swung the Angels’ way as Vander Weide went ballistic up front, with a luckless Chery Tiggo EV side left reeling to Petro Gazz’ scoring trifecta.
The match finished on a 6-0 run, four of which were Vander Weide attacks including the last two to secure the win.
BVS was a beast unleashed with a herculean 25-point, 15-reception, 10-dig triple-double.
Vander Weide also put up 25 and added 11 receptions in the best outing yet of her second Angels stint.
The Angels' 11th-overall draft pick in Jules Tolentino also seized her first start as lead setter ahead of mainstays Chie Saet and Djanel Cheng with 21 excellent sets.
