PETRO Gazz made it three straight victories, easing past undermanned Motolite, 25-22, 25-18, 25-19, in the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference at the Arena in San Juan.

Wilma Salas of Cuba had 25 points as the Angels tightened their grip on the lead.

American import Janisa Johnson delivered 13 points on top of 12 excellent receptions and 10 digs. Setter Djanel Cheng dished out 10 excellent sets as Petro Gazz tallied its best start since joining the league last year.

Motolite played without two key players as Myla Pablo continued to sit out due to back spasms, while reinforcement Edina Selimovic reportedly suffered a knee injury in Saturday’s four-set loss to Pacifictown-Army.

Team officials said the Bosnian import suffered the knee injury in the fourth set. She finished the match with 15 points.

Selimovic was set to undergo MRI on Sunday.

Coach Arnold Laniog hopes the Angels can sustain the strong start even as they face BaliPure (0-2) on Wednesday.

“Yun nga ang challenge sa amin kung paano masu-sustain hanggang sa susunod na mga games,” said Laniog. “Sa part namin talagang hangga’t maaari wala talagang magko-complacent, magre-relax. The more na nananalo kami magpu-push talaga kasi maghahanda ang ibang team.”

Channon Thompson led Motolite with 22 points off 16 spikes, three blocks and three aces, while Isa Molde added seven markers.
