ANTIPOLO CITY — PetroGazz completed a semis series sweep against BanKo on Saturday with a 25-23, 25-18, 25-17 victory to advance to the finals of the PVL Reinforced Conference at the Ynares Sports Center.
The Angels advance to the finals for the first time, sweeping the best-of-three series to make it four wins in four matches with the Perlas Spikers, including two matches in the eliminations.
BanKo, which has absorbed three straight losses including the final match of the eliminations, now focuses on the battle for third place against the loser of the other semifinal series between Creamline and Army.
Wilma Salas had 23 as Petro Gazz finished the match in an hour and 17 minutes.
Janisa Johnson had 12 kills and finished with 13 points, while making 13 digs and 13 excellent receptions.
Middle blockers Jeanette Panaga and Cherry Nunag chipped in nine and seven points, respectively, Djanel Cheng made 21 excellent sets, while libero Cienne Cruz had 11 receptions and nine digs.
“Masayang masaya dahil lahat ng sacrifice ng players nagbunga,” said PetroGazz head coach Arnold Laniog.
“Nareach na namin yung target namin, kaya ngayon bigay todo na ‘to to get the championship. Ibang usapan na and finals.”
PetroGazz committed 24 errors in the match while BanKo had only 14 miscues. But Salas and Johnson combined for 33 of the team’s 47 attacks to outplay the Perlas Spikers, who only had 28 attacks.
Stix Horton, who was brought in to replace Yasemin Yildirim before the opener of the semifinals, was the lone Perlas Spiker to score in double figures with 10 points.
Nicole Tiamzon was limited to just eight markers.
