IMUS City — Petro Gazz leaned on a late 15-1 run to deny Creamline, 27-25, 17-25, 25-23, 19-25, 15-5, and snap a two-game losing streak in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference on Saturday at Imus Sports Complex here.
Jonah Sabete and Cherry Nunag finished with 13 points apiece, while Maricar Baloaloa had 11 and skipper Paneng Mercado made 10 markers for the Angels, who improved to 2-3.
Petro Gazz coach Jerry Yee credited their win from their previous loses, citing they learned their lesson the hard way.
“Mas may experience ata kami this time around kasi ‘di ba may mga late game loses kami,” he said. “So mahabang usap, mahabang plano and stick tayo sa plano natin and ayun nadaan naman sa usap.”
Down, 0-4, in the fifth set, Petro Gazz rallied with seven straight points, to take the upper hand, 7-4, before Creamline stopped the bleeding, 5-7.
After gaining momentum, the Angels tightened their grip to spoil the Cool Smashers’ first game of the conference.
“Nag-timeout ako to remind them na composure lang buti nag-stick (sa plan) ‘yung mga bata,” revealed Yee.
“I have to admit first game ng Creamline ito eh so there’s a big factor pero hindi na namin fault siguro ‘yun,” he added.
The Angels won’t have no time to celebrate or to rest as they face winless Iriga-Navy on Sunday at The Arena in San Juan.
Alyssa Valdez made 26 points for Creamline, while Jema Galanza had 14 and Michele Gumabao chipped in 12.
