PETRO Gazz pounced on the Maddie Madayag-less Choco Mucho, 25-18, 25-21, 25-18, to win three matches in a row before heading to the semifinals of Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Open Conference on Wednesday at the Arena in San Juan City.
Angels’ wing spikers Jonah Sabete and Jovielyn Prado, once again, led their balanced-attack to take down the Flying Titans, who were singlehandedly carried by Kat Tolentino, in one hour and 29 minutes.
Sabete nailed 14 points on top of 12 excellent receptions. Prado had 12 points, 13 digs and 11 receives, while Paneng Mercado and Cherry Nunag chipped in nine markers apiece.
Petro Gazz head coach Arnold Laniog missed their last elimination match due to his coaching duties for La Salle Green Spikers in the on-going Uni Games but the Angels remained unstoppable under assistant Rald Ricafort.
“Kung kaya durugin yung kalaban, as in durugin talaga kung kaya,” said Sabete. “Masaya kami kasi nakatuntong kami dito as a team talaga hindi kami (nagrely) sa isang tao lang, tulungan kami lahat.”
Petro Gazz finished the elims with three straight wins to clinch the second place with 12-4 win-loss record, setting a best-of-three semifinals series showdown against third-seed BanKo (10-6) starting on Saturday.
“Kailangan pa namin dagdagan pa yung lakas and yung pagiging consistent sa game para sa next game namin tuloy tuloy pa rin,” Sabete added.
Tolentino carried the cudgels for Choco Mucho with 20 points and 16 digs as her team missed Madayag, who is in Japan for the national team training camp.
The Flying Titans ended their maiden PVL conference with four straight losses, finishing with 6-10 record.
