PETRO Gazz made quick work of league newcomer Strong Group Athletics, 25-12, 25-20, 25-12, at the start of the 2024 PVL All-Filipino Conference on Tuesday at the PhilSports Arena.
Nicole Tiamzon flexed her offensive prowess to begin the Angels’ title campaign with 15 points on 13 attacks and two aces.

"Very thankful for the opportunity also to play, I’m trying to get back on track also playing inside the court for straight sets. And yun nga, we’re trying to find our chemistry also, it’s our first game so maraming lapses pa, maraming errors and tomorrow, we’re going back to training and we’ll fix everything," said Tiamzon.
It only took one hour and 19 minutes for Petro Gazz to close out SGA's difficult PVL debut, but newly-minted Japanese head coach Koji Tsuzurabara rued how such a one-sided result didn't come as easy as it looked on paper.

"Everyone, all players were too nervous during their game. There were some bad moments and there were a lot of mistakes. They didn’t have a rhythm. It was so-so," said Tsuzurabara.
Petro Gazz might have dominated the attacking department (42 to 15), but it was the Angels who had the lion's share of unforced errors with 27 in just three sets — one which didn't go unnoticed by Petro Gazz' newest ace scorer Brooke Van Sickle.
"I would say I feel like we’re a little tense and not really flowing as well. Probably first game jitters, a little bit. But you know, it’s still good to be able to play and start PVL with a win," Van Sickle said.
Meanwhile, it was SGA skipper and former Jose Rizal University hotshot Dolly Versoza's six points that led a meager scoring display for the Onyok Getigan-led debutants.
