UNIVERSITY of Perpetual Help may have lost in the semifinal race in the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference, but the young team had actually more to gain.
UPH bowed out of contention after a four-set beating at the hands of San Beda University, 19-25, 15-25, 25-9, 21-25, on Wednesday at The Arena in San Juan.
But Lady Altas coach Macky Cariño kept his head up.
“Actually una inambisyon namin pumasok ng semis so medyo unti-unti siyang pumangit kasi natalo kami sa first three games namin and then nagkaroon kami ng injuries, may mga nagkasakit,” he said.
“(Pero) ‘yung matututunan namin dito, ‘yun na lang ang bibitbitin namin sa mga susunod na games namin,” he added.
After the PVL, Cariño plans to join the Unigames on October 21 to 28 in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental for their much-needed exposure to competitive games.
The outspoken mentor hopes that his wards will be ready just in time for the NCAA Season 94 women’s volleyball tournament late this year.
“Malayo pa naman ang NCAA, actually NCAA naman talaga ang pinaghahandaan namin. Siguro bago mag-NCAA liga kami ng Unigames siguro medyo ok na kami doon,” he said.
