PAYMAYA had to come from two sets down to deny BanKo Perlas, 22-25, 14-25, 25-14, 25-23, 15-12, and secure the last finals berth in the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference on Friday at The Arena in San Juan.
American import Tess Rountree finished with 35 points for the High Flyers, who arranged a best-of-three finals showdown with Creamline.
Grethcel Soltones, former NCAA MVP out of San Sebastian College, was again impressive on both offense and defense with 16 points, 16 digs, and 19 excellent receptions for PayMaya.
“Sinasabi ko naman lagi sa kanila ‘yung confidence nila itaas lang nila lagi, ‘wag silang mawawalan ng loob,” said PayMaya coach Roger Gorayeb, whose team had to go through the hard way after a four-set loss in Game One of the best-of-three semifinals series.
“Kasi sabi ko nga, even if we lose this game, if we played 100 percent, everybody can walk out of that court saying that we played 100 percent, even if we lose, sabi ko, ok tayo sa ganyan maganda para sa atin,” he added.
Holding on a slim two-point lead in the fifth set, 12-10, PayMaya reached match point, 14-11, before Lakia Bright stopped the bleeding for BanKo Perlas.
But Grethcel Soltones scored on an off-the-block kill to hand the High Flyers the win.
Bright carried most of BanKo Perlas’ offensive load as she poured in 41 points, all but one from attacks, while Thai import Jutarat Montripila added 18.
BanKo Perlas will face dethroned Pocari Sweat-Air Force in the battle-for-third.
