PAU Soriano was glad to finally suit up and play for Creamline again after a successful surgery and recovery from Plica Syndrome on her right knee.

After the Cool Smashers ruled the Reinforced Conference last July, Soriano revealed that she had Plica Syndrome, a knee injury, and went through surgery before the Open Conference, which needed her six weeks before returning to action.

“May injury kasi ako last conference pa naoperahan ako pero minor lang naman nagkaroon ng Plica syndrome and kailangan siya alisin,” she said. “Kaya ayun need ko magpahinga ng six weeks.”

After missing first three games, Soriano finally made her return on Wednesday against her alma mater Adamson-Akari.

“Masarap ‘yung feeling actually kahapon (Tuesday) lang ako nagstart magtraining ulit. Masarap, namiss ko sila kasama sa court,” said Soriano, who got the doctor’s clearance last Monday.

Soriano dropped three points after seeing action late in the second set and started in the third set helping the Cool Smasher en route to their third straight win in four matches capped by a 25-16, 25-9, 25-20 victory over the Lady Falcons.

The middle blocker, however, said that she’s far from 100 percent.

“Mabilis naman recovery ko pero continuous pa rin ‘yung therapy ko naguundergo pa rin,” she said.

But what made her comeback special is facing her former team, Adamson — the school she played for from 2008 to 2012.

“Nakakatuwa ‘yung mga bata na makita kasi alam mo ‘yung tatak ng Adamson ‘yung floor defense talaga,” the ex-captain of Adamson said. “Siyempre dati naglalaro para sa school ng Adamson pero iba yung feeling kapag kalaban mo sila. Alam mo ‘yun, nakakatuwa lang, kasi para kang ate nila and then nakikita mo rin yung respect nila sayo.”

As the Lady Falcons suffered their fourth straight loss, this time at the hands of the Cool Smashers, Soriano said that there is nothing to be ashamed of for the young team as they need to gain more experience in their Open Conference stint by taking on the some of the top club teams in the country.

“Siguro iba rin ‘yung advantage ng experience,” the 26-year-old spiker said. “Nakita mo naman na medyo bata pa sila pero makikita mo ‘yung skills talagang palaban din and gusto din manalo. Makukuha naman every game nagiimprove sila and grabe ‘yung jelling nila and ‘yung team work nila.”

“Proud ako sa kanila sobra lalo na nung kami ‘yung kalaban din talagang makikita mo na ayaw nila magpatalo,” she added.

Now that Soriano continues to strive back to her true form, she vowed to bravely take on the challenge, especially now that the Cool Smashers will miss star Michele Gumabao for up to three weeks for Miss Globe.

“Parang great challenge siya sa amin na wala si Michele kasi isa siya sa mga leader sa loob ng court take na lang namin siya as challenge tsaka kailangan talaga mag-step up ng bawat isa,” she said.
