PETRO Gazz defeated Tacloban, 25-22, 25-14, 26-24, to start its campaign in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference on Saturday at The Arena in San Juan.
Paneng Mercado had 14 points for the Angels, while Mary Anne Mendrez added 11 points, seven digs, and nine excellent receptions, and Ranya Musa made 10.
His team coming off a sixth-place finish in the Reinforced Conference, Petro Gazz coach Jerry Yee was pleased to see his wards work hard in their first match.
“Masaya syempre, every time you get a win you should be happy,” he said.
Petro Gazz takes on BanKo Perlas on Sunday at Imus Sports Complex.
“We wanted to let the others play kasi nga back-to-back games tayo so kahit kaunti nakakuha sana ng rest but medyo not too stable but we held on,” said Yee.
Recruits Jonah Sabete and Jessey de Leon were also impressive with eight and five points, respectively, for Petro Gazz.
Heather Guino-o finished with nine points for Tacloban, while Mary Anne Esguerra and skipper Jovielyn Prado each had six markers.
