PETRO Gazz scored an easy 25-15, 25-19, 25-18 win over Chef’s Classics to end the first round of elimination on a high note in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference on Sunday at The Arena in San Juan.
Paneng Mercado and Jonah Sabete each had 11 points for the Angels, who extended their winning run to five to cement their hold of the No. 2 spot with a 6-2 win-loss record behind unbeaten Creamline (10-0).
Jovielyn Prado added nine markers and 14 digs for Petro Gazz, which saw action in the 2019 Taichung Bank International Women’s Invitational Volleyball Tournament last week.
“May mga struggle noong umpisa, going to this game na ito medyo gumaganda na ang chemistry ng team,” said Petro Gazz coach Arnold Laniog.
“At the same time lumalalim na ‘yung relationship ng team inside and outside the court especially doon sa tournament namin sa Taiwan, one week malaking bagay na magkakasama,” he added.
Petro Gazz went winless in four matches in the Taiwan tournament, but Laniog says the experience was all worth it.
“Kumbaga it helps talaga sa team ‘yung bonding namin, everyday kaming magkakasama, morning training tapos sa afternoon game,” said Laniog.
“Hindi maganda ‘yung result but ‘yung experience na na-gain namin, ‘yung mga learnings and lessons namin hopefully ma-apply namin,” he added.
Jinggay Bangad scored seven points for Chef’s Classics, which came off a five-set loss to Choco Mucho on Saturday in Malolos, Bulacan.
