PACIFICTOWN-Army moved to third spot with a 25-22, 23-25, 27-29, 25-20, 15-7 victory over Banko on Sunday in the PVL Reinforced Conference at the Arena in San Juan.
Jenelle Jordan scored 23 as the Lady Troopers won the first five-set match of the tournament.
Army bounced back from a loss to PetroGazz and improved its win-loss record to 2-3, finishing the first round of eliminations in third place, while BanKo dropped to fourth with a 2-3 card.
Petro Gazz leads the six-team tournament with a 5-0 record followed by Creamline at 3-1.
Olena Lymareva-Flink had 19 points, 14 excellent receptions and 13 digs.
Seldom-used Jem Gutierrez scored four of the Lady Troopers last nine points in the fourth to force the decider.
“Nakatadhana na mag fifth set kami ngayon para mabunot ko si Jem,” said coach Kungfu Reyes.
“Very thankful kami sa kanya kasi meron siyang reward sa sarili niya na pag pinagpupursigihan mo ang isang bagay may magandang bunga,” he added.
Honey Royse Tubino had 16 points, Alina Bicar had 26 excellent sets and 10 points on on six attacks and four service aces, while libero Angela Nunag had 30 digs and 18 receptions.
“Talagang match na match kami ni BanKo first four sets dikit na dikit kami nagkakahiwalay lang kami pagdating sa dulo,” said Reyes.
Kia Bright had 20 points, 20 excellent receptions and 19 digs for the Perlas Spikers. Nicole Tiamzon had 20 markers, while Turkish import Yasemin Yildirim and Kathy Bersola added 10 each.
