BACK home in Canada, there were doubts on whether PLDT's Savi Davison had what it takes to be the next big thing.
It was because her 5-foot-10 stature was deemed to be 'too short' for a spiker to reach the top of her game.
When the 26-year-old Fil-Canadian ace entered Philippine volleyball roughly two years ago, she began seeing herself and her value as a player in a different light.

"Through life, I've always been told that I'm shorter, even though here, maybe I'm like average," Davison shared with SPIN.ph.
"(I'm) just shorter, especially in Canada and the U.S. They always told me that I had to work double to make up for the height."
The leading scorer of the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference found a new lease on life now that she's armed with the belief that she can more than compensate for the lack of height with her overpowering heart for the game.
Firing a league-best 20.56 points per game has been the strongest proof yet of how her newfound confidence has translated to what has been a career campaign so far.
"Through those (doubts), working hard and putting my best foot forward have been implemented through being a sport in school, education, parents and my coaches. I have to give credit to those people as well," Davison said.
It's an adage told time and time again in sport, but it's one that has fueled Davison to be the scoring machine she's grown to become.
"I know it's super cliché, but hardwork definitely beats talent when talent doesn't grow up."
