OLIVER Almadro has been named the new head coach of Petro Gazz in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL), just two months after resigning from Choco Mucho to supposedly focus on his head-coaching role at Ateneo.
The surprise news was announced on social media on Tuesday by Petro Gazz, which just five days ago saw its own head coach Rald Ricafort and deputy Arnold Lianog move to rival side PLDT.

“New year! New beginnings! New heights! Let’s all welcome, Coach Oliver Almadro as the new head coach of the Petro Gazz Angels,” Petro Gazz management said on its social media pages.
Almadro have coached the Choco Mucho Flying Titans since its PVL debut in 2019, leading the Flying Titans to a back-to-back fourth-place finishes in the 2020 and 2021 Open Conferences.
But Almadro stepped down from the post last November, saying he wants to focus on the Ateneo Blue Eagles’ preparation in the UAAP. The team announced that he was staying on as team consultant.
League sources said Almadro will keep his position as Ateneo coach despite the move to Petro Gazz.
The Flying Titans will now be coached by Dante Alinsunurin.
