NXLED turns unpredictability into a weapon under PVL's all-to-play rule

Adapt and conquer, indeed, for unbeaten Chameleons

IN a conference where every player must be ready to take the floor, Nxled is learning that winning is not always about finding the perfect starting six. Sometimes, it is about knowing when to change it.

The Chameleons have so far turned the PVL's all-must-start rule into an exercise in adaptability, opening the 2026 All-Filipino Conference Siklab series with four straight victories to share the league lead with Creamline.

For head coach Ettore Guidetti, there is no single formula behind NXLED's unbeaten run. The Italian tactician has instead embraced the challenge of constantly reshuffling his rotations, refusing to give opponents a predictable pattern to prepare for.

“I really think that the only key is to adapt every single game because there is not a single strategy,” Guidetti said.

Nxled's latest four-set victory over Choco Mucho offered perhaps the clearest example of that philosophy.

After splitting the opening two sets, the Chameleons found themselves staring at an eight-point deficit in the third, trailing 14-22 as the Flying Titans threatened to take control of the match.

Guidetti gradually reintegrated his main weapons, bringing back three-time MVP Brooke Van Sickle before turning to MJ Phillips. The adjustment sparked an incredible turnaround, with Phillips firing the finishing ace in a 25-23 escape that completely shifted the momentum.

Guidetti considered the comeback a significant display of maturity, particularly with his team managing to carry that momentum into the fourth set to complete the victory.

“We have done the same the last two games. Today we switched and played with the starting six the first two sets. Then we struggled in the third, but we offered a huge maturity proof, having an incredible comeback, winning and continuing dealing with the momentum,” he said.

For Guidetti, the danger lies in becoming too comfortable with a successful rotation.

“If you show those kind of opponents one thing that you always do, they're gonna immediately learn how to destroy it in a very good technical and strategical way,” he explained.

“So adaptation is the key.”

The system has also demanded adjustments from Nxled's established stars.

Van Sickle admitted that constantly managing her physical condition and staying mentally engaged amid changing rotations have made the conference particularly challenging.

“It's very challenging because momentum can change at any moment, and also just trying to stay warm and keep the body and mind going when you're used to something,” said Van Sickle, who nevertheless views the experience as an opportunity to grow.

Phillips, meanwhile, pointed out that the competition is becoming tougher with opposing teams also getting significant contributions from their second units.

“Each team is firing back. So yeah, every game is just a challenge,” she said.

Four games into the conference, nxLED has yet to find a reason to settle on one winning formula. And perhaps that is precisely what makes the Chameleons difficult to figure out.
