DASMARIÑAS — A late call on a jersey snafu by Nxled created confusion in its PVL Reinforced Conference opener against Farm Fresh on Thursday.
Following Nxled’s 25-22 first-set win, first referee Fernando Velarde approached Chameleons captain Chiara Permentilla to inform her that they were being penalized a point for not wearing their light-colored uniforms.

As per the tournament schedule, Nxled was supposed to wear light kits while Farm Fresh accurately sported its dark jerseys.
Permentilla, for her part, questioned why Nxled was penalized at the start of the second set and not before the match began, just like how ZUS Coffee was handed a penalty for the same infraction against Capital in a preseason game back in July.

Their exchange at the sidelines was shown in the live broadcast.
“Bibigyan namin kayo ng red card tapos point ng kalabn kasi mali ang uniform ninyo,” Velarde told Permentilla.
“Bakit po hindi niyo agad sinabi kanina nung lumabas kami,” the Chameleons skipper said.
“Dapat alam niyo ‘yan kasi nasa schedule niyo ‘yan,” the first referee stressed.
Back and forth they went, with Velarde still not giving Permentilla a clear justification as to why they were only notified of the penalty before the second set and not before the match.
Nxled head coach Ettore Guidetti ultimately concurred with the verdict that saw the team receive a red card and an 0-1 deficit before the first serve of the second set.
