ALYSSA Valdez said a rare off-the-bench role in Creamline's game against BaliPure in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) on Tuesday was part of the team's plans.

The former UAAP MVP sat out the entire opening set before checking in late in the second frame, but the plan backfired as Creamline suffered a 25-20, 23-25, 25-19, 18-25, 7-15 loss to BaliPure.

The league's leading scorer was also held to two points in the match.

"Originally talaga 'yun naman talaga (ang plan na off the bench). Kapag tinawag ka naman talaga, kailangan mo ring mag-perform," said Valdez, who finished with only two points.

Coming off the bench was something new to the Creamline star, who is hobbled by sprained right ankle.

Despite the loss, the Creamline star considered the off-the-bench role a "good experience" that she can learn from as the Cool Smashers enter the crucial stretch of the tournament.

"Very new rin (off the bench). Hindi naman ako usually pinapasok for receive and defense rin but it was a good experience also for me," said Valdez.

Creamline fell to 3-6 (win-loss), but Valdez said she was proud to see her teammates put up a tough stand against a Balipure side led by imports Jennifer Keddy and Jeng Bualee.

"It was really good. Maganda rin naman ang run. Maganda lang rin ang nilaro ng BaliPure, they played as one team today. Yung breaks also ng game, maganda rin ang momentum nila," she said.

"We just have to look at dun sa mga things na nakakalimutan namin. Kailangan lang namin, mag-jell pa as a team."
