BANKO Perlas Spikers beat Ateneo-Motolite, 27-25, 25-19, 25-11, for its fourth straight win in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference on Sunday at the Arena in San Juan.
Coming off a four-set win over Adamson-Akari on Saturday and third place finish in the Vinh Long Volleyball Tournament in Vietnam last week, the Perlas Spikers showed no signs of fatigue, routing the Lady Eagles for a 4-0 win-loss record on top of the standings.
Nicole Tiamzon had 17 points off 12 attacks, four blocks and an ace, and made nine digs and six receptions.
Dzi Gervacio, who had a 24-point output less than 24 hours ago, scored 14 against her former team.
Kathy Bersola added 11 markers.
“Na-challenge lang siguro ang mga players namin kasi parehas kaming walang talo eh. Siguro na-challenge ang mga players namin and gusto naming manalo,” said BanKo coach Dong Dela Cruz.
The Perlas Spikers started the third set with a 14-2 run and stretched the lead to 22-6.
“Actually, yun naman ang instruction ko sa team. Yung first set medyo crucial yun, kung sino manalo doon malamang yun na ang mananalo sa game, yun ang sabi ko sa kanila kaya ‘pilitin nating kunin ang first set,” Dela Cruz added.
The Perlas Spikers battle the Tacloban Fighting Warays (2-2) on Wednesday.
Kat Tolentino scored 11 points and Maddie Madayag added 10 points for the Lady Eagles, who suffered their first loss in three matches.
The Lady Eagles, who beat Pocari Sweat-Air Force and Petro Gazz, face winless Iriga-Navy Lady Oragons next week.
