MOTOLITE fought its way back from a two-set deficit, sending Choco Mucho to its fifth straight defeat, 25-27, 15-25, 25-18, 25-17, 18-16, in the PVL Open Conference on Sunday at the Arena in San Juan.
Isa Molde, Tots Carlos and Bern Flora showed the way for the Motolite squad missing Myla Pablo due to a metatarsal sprain, as it finished the first round in solo second place at 6-2 behind Creamline (9-0).
It was a tight match until the end, with Kat Tolentino nailing a hit for deuce at 16 before back-to-back kills from Molde and Flora completed the come-from-behind victory in two hours and 34 minutes.
Molde and Carlos delivered 23 points apiece as Motolite overcame the 33-point performance of Choco Mucho’s Kat Tolentino.
“I believe we fought against all odds,” said a frustrated Okumu in the post-game.
“It’s a good way to end a long first round but it’s not over yet it’s just the beginning,” he added. “Everybody wants to be No. 1 and that’s why we’re here.”
Molde had 18 digs and 10 excellent receptions, while Adamson star Flora had 15 points and 20 digs.
Middle blockers Jessma Ramos and Aie Gannaban were also instrumental with 13 and 11 points, respectively, while Iris Tolenada made 46 excellent sets on top of three points.
Tolentino was the lone Flying Titan to score in double figures finishing with 31 kills, a block and an ace, while making 21 digs.
Choco Mucho is without Maddie Madayag, who has joined the Philippine women’s volleyball team for a tournament in Thailand.
The Flying Titans hold a 2-6 record.
