PVL fans might have seen the last of Ces Molina and Riri Meneses in the 2024-25 All-Filipino Conference.
That is, if the non-renewal of their contracts as HD Spikers will stand.

Back in the season-opening press launch in November, PVL commissioner Sherwin Malonzo explained the league’s current regulations when it comes to player contracts in light of Eya Laure’s contract impasse with Chery Tiggo at the time.
League rules state that players whose contracts are to expire midway through a conference are prohibited from playing for a new team while the said conference is still ongoing.

“In-encourage ko ‘yung teams na if mag-eexpire na ‘yung contract ng isang player sa mother team, ‘wag niyong i-ilineup. Kapag ni-lineup niyo siya, hindi kayo nagkasundo sa usapan at umalis siya, hindi na siya makakalaro sa ibang team [this conference],” Malonzo said.
Simply put, PVL teams can sign new players during an ongoing conference and have them suit up immediately except for ‘transferees.’
“Either to extend until the end of the conference, extend or renew for a new contract, or kung hindi na nga ie-extend or let it die a natural death kumbaga at mag-expire na ‘yung contract, ‘wag na nilang i-lineup because of our regulations sa conference na ‘to," Malonzo continued.

Malonzo added, “You cannot remove or change. You can add. Every time you add, pwede nga ‘yan na if you add today, laro bukas pwede as long as hindi siya na-lineup sa ibang team.
“Kapag na-lineup na sa ibang team [during the conference], hindi na siya pwedeng maglaro.”
Cignal's player contract fiasco
In Cignal’s case, Molina and Meneses’ contracts were set to expire by the end of 2024. The team accused the pair of refusing to engage in renewal talks since October.
Their representatives in Avior Talent Management went on to submit a formal letter to Cignal on Jan. 6, stating Molina and Meneses’ desire not to renew their team contracts to seek opportunities abroad.

Such a move did not sit well with the HD Spikers management as they now mull legal action to refute their potential contract breaches.
Should the ex-Cignal duo opt to stay put in the PVL instead, with a growing list of suitors queueing up to secure their services, league rules will prevent them from playing for the remainder of the ongoing conference set to end by April.
