The shock disbandment of F2 Logistics Cargo Movers, one of the most decorated teams in both the now-defunct Philippine Superliga (PSL) and the Premier Volleyball League (PVL), seven months ago remains a mystery to its former foreign import.

MJ Perez, one of F2’s champion reinforcements but now playing for Cignal in the PVL, said hearing the unfortunate news on the disbandment of the club that gave her first break in Philippine volleyball left her shocked and heartbroken.

When news reached her, the 36-year-old Venezuelan winger told SPIN.ph said she reached out to her former Cargo Movers cohorts to ask what happened and to console them.

“(F2’s disbandment) was a surprise for me at the beginning. I didn’t know the reasons. I started texting the girls and asking all the F2 girls what’s happening,” said Perez.

“It was heartbreaking because I know F2 works so hard. I know all the management there. They are really good people. I was actually surprised but I understand their reasons.”

MJ’s ‘amigas’ for life

To this day, Perez considers the 2017 PSL Grand Prix crown as one of the greatest moments not only in her Philippine stint but also in her 18-year volleyball career.

“Of course, (my best F2 memory was) when we won the championship. It was one of my best memories, not only in the Philippines but also in my entire career because for me, every championship has something special to it.

“Definitely, when I played here with F2, it was one of the best.”

Now back in the Philippines in a new league with a new team, Perez’ ex-F2 teammates will soon be her on-court rivals — one that also came as a result of the Cargo Movers’ post-disbandment player dispersal.

And although she’ll soon be locking horns with her F2 sisters whom she shared some of her best moments with, Perez said that her F2 family will always be her ‘amigas’ for life.

“I love all of them. Aby (Maraño) is my amiga forever. All of them are my amigas — Kim Fajardo, Kianna (Dy), Majoy (Baron), Cha (Cruz-Behag), Dawn (Macandili-Catindig) who’s now with us in the team. Actually, I’m here because of Dawn.

“All of them, I really love all of them.”
