MERALCO survived the tough stand of Philippine National Police to prevail, 25-19, 25-15, 16-25, 25-23, in a battle of two eliminated teams inthe Shakey's V-League Season 10 Open Conference at The Arena in San Juan on Friday.
Team captain Maureen Penetrante-Ouano led the Power Spikers with 17 points, Chinese reinforcement Coco Wang chipped in 14, while Stephanie Mercado and Fille Cainglet had 13 and 11, respectively.
The win improved the white-and-orange team’s record to 4-7, and arrest a five-game losing skid that cost the Power Spikers a berth in the semifinals.
Meralco dominated the blocking department, 10-, and registered more service aces, 8-5.
The Power Spikers, who committed 17 miscues, also capitalized on the 23 errors committed by the Lady Patrolers.
San Beda College standouts Janine Marciano and Frances Molina finished with 17 markers to show the way for PNP, which also got 14 form Patcharee Sangmuang.
The Lady Patrollers fell further down the quarterfinal standings at 2-8.
